Volterra Project Trio

Volterra Project Trio

The Volterra Project Trio reinterprets the trio literature for guitar, drawing inspiration from European impressionism, Mediterranean folk melodies and film music. The three protagonists Antigoni Goni (Greece), Luca Isolani (Italy) and Maarten Vandenbemden (Belgium) came together at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, where Antigoni Goni has held the guitar professorship since 2004. Together, the three of them also organize the guitar festival in Volterra, which has been held every year since 2007 under the direction of its founder Antigoni Goni and attracts many guitarists from all over the world.

Luca Isolani brings his expertise from the folk music sector, the subject of his doctorate, to the trio, while Maarten Vandenbemden is active in a wide variety of chamber music ensembles. In the trio, they treat the guitars orchestrally and explore their unique sounds, dynamics and colors.

In 2022, the trio released the album "Medio Siglo", dedicated to the famous guitar maker José Luis Romanillos and recorded with his last guitars.

The Volterra Project Trio made its US debut at the 50th Guitar Foundation of America Convention in New York in June 2023.
